Leading-Edge Employment Relations Service
ACM’s employment relations service provides confidential advice, guidance and information to members whether as employees or as managers. This is provided through national and regional helplines and workplace support and representation from our experienced regional officers and caseworkers.
Employment relations leaflets on various topics including contract of employment, sex and race discrimination, grievances, discipline at work, restructuring and redundancy and many more are available by contacting the helpline or via the members' only area of this website.
Up-to-the-Minute Information
ACM’s information services will keep you up to date on developments in the sector. Be the first person in your institution to receive briefings on key issues from the ACM e-information service. You will also have access to the members’ page on the ACM website and receive the Association’s newsletter and other publications.
Education and Professional Development Service
We run a wide range of conferences, training events and other activities around the country, led by key figures in the sector and employment relations experts. As a member of ACM you will get priority booking and reduced fees. Details of forthcoming events are available on the website.
Publications to support professional good practice are available to new members free of charge. The current publications in the college manager series are The Organised College Manager, MIS for Managers, Disciplinary problems and grievances: a guide to best practice, A practical guide to employer engagement and Professional and career development: a guide for managers in the learning and skills sector.
Understanding government policies and how they are shaped is an important aspect of managers' professional development. ACM advises civil servants regularly and responds to all major policy consultations. You can contribute to our responses and stay abreast with the latest policy thinking by joining the e-information service.
National Representation
ACM is recognised by the Association of Colleges, and fforum in Wales, as the representative body for managers in further education and plays a leading role in national negotiations on pay and conditions of service. ACM also has an outstanding record of influencing decision makers, including ministers, senior civil servants, funding chiefs and the media. Our aim is not only to influence the agenda but also to set it.
