September 2001
From TPI to CPI?
Since the inception of the Teachers Pay Initiative in England
the Association has been lobbying for the inclusion of all college staff
in the remit of the Governments Pay Initiative. Such an extension
of the framework would necessitate funding additional to that already
committed by the Government to the TPI. There were indications from
Ministers in the last administration that they were receptive to our
proposals. We are now preparing, together with the other organisations
in the NJF Unison, Natfhe, GMB, TGW, ATL and AoC to put
our new case to Ministers in September.
ACM is presently revising the TPI framework so that we have a viable,
detailed proposal to put to Ministers in the Autumn. All fresh developments
will be reported in this newsletter.
In Wales, Minister Jane Davidson has agreed since its inception that
the scope of the Pay Initiative should include all college staff. However
since the quantum of funding is pro rata to that available in England,
this has meant that the PI funding in Wales has been spread relatively
thinly. It is in the interests of Welsh colleges for ACM to secure an
extension of the pay initiative in England. Then the funds available
to Welsh colleges would also increase proportionately.
