Contribute to an ACM Management Handbook!

Following the success of The Reflective College Manager, the Association is planning the next publication in the series. The Organised College Manager will be a compilation of members’ strategies for excellent organisation. WE ARE APPEALING TO MEMBERS FOR CONTRIBUTIONS! Send us a clear, detailed description of a specific strategy that works well, that you would like to share with colleagues. The basic structure of the handbook is detailed below to give you ideas about where you could make an input. The name of each member will appear next to their contribution in the final publication. I want as many members as possible to contribute so there is a long lead in time. Please send your contribution to Nadine Cartner nadinecartner@acm.uk.com or at 10 De Montfort St, Leicester LE1 7GG by THE END OF OCTOBER 2002. Many thanks.

Improving Your Branch

There is little doubt that where ACM has a thriving branch, our members are seen, heard and informed. Recruitment and communications are better and ACM’s profile is higher. So it will come as no surprise to learn that we are keen to encourage the development of more active branches.

To this end, we are developing a new branch handbook and will be providing support and advice for any members wishing to set up a branch at their college. We also plan to hold some networking events which will look at improving ACM organisation at the local level, and enable members to share information and experiences. Linked to this will be training and advice on topics like negotiating skills, grievance and disciplinary procedures.

If you are already involved in running an ACM branch, or if you are keen on setting up a new branch, then please let us know. It will help us to know what you think should be included in the branch handbook, or what specific support we should be providing to help branches develop.
